2025 Among Hottest Years on Record as Global Warming Trend Continues

(MENAFN) The year 2025 was the third-warmest globally since modern records began, according to data released by the European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), highlighting an ongoing trend of rising global temperatures and increasingly frequent climate extremes.

The findings, published in the Global Climate Highlights 2025 report, show that the year was only slightly cooler than 2023 and followed 2024, which remains the warmest year on record and the first to surpass 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

Global average surface temperatures in 2025 reached 14.97°C, which is 0.59°C above the 1991–2020 average and 1.47°C higher than estimated pre-industrial levels.

Copernicus data indicates that around 91% of the planet experienced above-average temperatures during the year, with nearly half of Earth recording significantly warmer-than-normal conditions.

Several monthly records were also notable. January 2025 was the warmest January ever recorded, while March, April, and May each ranked as the second warmest on record for those months.

Ocean temperatures remained elevated throughout the year as well, with global sea surface temperatures averaging 0.38°C above the 1991–2020 baseline, marking the third-highest level recorded.

This persistent warmth occurred even in the absence of strong El Niño conditions, underscoring the broader long-term warming trend identified by climate monitoring agencies.
